## What is teeth whitening?

Whitening lightens natural tooth colour. It does not lighten crowns, veneers or other replacement teeth in the same way.

## Assessment first

Your dentist checks your teeth and gums before recommending whitening. Discuss existing restorations and the colour change you would like to achieve.

## Application options

Whitening may be carried out in a dental surgery or using dentist-provided trays and gel. Your clinician explains the suitable method and instructions.

## Sensitivity and maintenance

Temporary sensitivity and gum irritation can occur. Results are not permanent. Follow your dentist’s advice rather than assuming a guaranteed shade or duration.

## What your quote should explain

Ask which method is included, whether trays or further sessions are part of the cost and who will review any concerns afterwards.

## Questions for your clinician

Ask which method is suitable, what sensitivity or other limitations to expect, and how existing restorations affect the plan.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can the same whitening method be used for everyone?

Your dentist assesses suitability, discusses methods and explains what changes can reasonably be expected for your teeth.

### Will whitening change the colour of my crowns?

Whitening works on natural teeth, not replacement restorations in the same way. Discuss colour differences with your dentist.

### Are whitening results permanent?

No. Discuss care and any future review or repeat treatment with your dentist rather than relying on a fixed duration.
